Chemical reactions can not only be made to happen, but we can quantify them. What does that mean? Think about it this way.....when someone goes to the kitchen to whip-up a large cake for a group of people they know the size of the cake they ultimately want. So, they will need to perhaps do a little math to determine just how much of each ingredient they will require.
In the early years of the field of Chemistry, the role of gasses was not often recognized. Why? Well, gases are just not that easy to see. From the air we breathe, the carbon dioxide we expel from our body, to the hot air blown in the balloons pictured here.
Acids & Bases
This is something that we all know at least a little about this. We can clean with both of these, we have acid in our stomach, cocoa is a base we find in most desserts, and acid is even found in many of the beverages we drink.
